On display in the Caldwell Gallery is replica Pup N6460 in the colours of No. 3 (Naval) Squadron RNAS, which was flown by New Zealander Captain Harold Francis Beamish, DSC, during June and July 1917. Beamish survived the war with 11 victories.
N6161 of 9 Squadron, RNAS, was captured intact by German Forces on 1st February, 1917, after it was forced to land. Later it was flown in German markings at Neumünster. Some of the original parts were used in the rebuild by the HAC's Retrotec company.
Although Shuttleworth's Sopwith Pup never had a service serial allocated, G-EBKY is representing an unmarked RFC Pup, one of batch of 53 built by William Beardmore & Co of Dalmuir, Scotland, in 1919, with serials in the 9898-9950 range.
N5182 served with 3 and 8 (Naval) Sq. from bases in Northern France during 1917/18. Remains were recovered from France in 1960 and the restored Pup returned to the air as G-APUP in 1973 in the hands of the late Neil Williams. N5182 came to Hendon in 1984
