Biannual runs at Bruntingthorpe, May and August bank holiday's always produce some lovely opportunities to see both Lightning's run down the tarmac and remind us of the noise and smell of these fantastic aircraft.
XS904/BQ in her former 11 Squadron colours as flown by (then) F/L Brian P. Carroll from RAF Binbrook. When at Brunty, Brian Carroll (W/C, retired) regularly carried out fast and thundering runs in XS904 until his death in 2004.
Outside the Lightning preservation Group's Q-Shed prior to her participating in the fast taxi runs with other cold war jets during the day. I had the privilege of flying with her air-air in a VC-10 back in 1988 whilst she was flying out of Warton
This classic cold war jet is kept in fantastic condition by the Lightning Preservation Group Bruntingthorpe. Awesome to still see her wearing 11 Sqn markings and doing full burner runs! Long may it continue!! :-)
