Clocking up almost 3,356 hours, XR771 made her last flight on the 23rd of August, 1988 and came to the Midland Air Museum shortly after. Known codes during her service with No.11 Squadron are ‘BA, ‘BF’ and ‘BM’.
On display in the static at the 1987 International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, this Lightning F.6 was operated by RAF No.11 Squadron. She has since been scrapped.
Biannual runs at Bruntingthorpe, May and August bank holiday's always produce some lovely opportunities to see both Lightning's run down the tarmac and remind us of the noise and smell of these fantastic aircraft.
