Spitfire Ia AR213 has been repainted in the markings of 71 (Eagle) Squadron, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the USAAF's Eighth Air Force arriving at RAF Duxford. P7308/XR-D was flown regularly by P/O William 'Bill' Dunn, one of the unit's aces.

Dan Friedkin warming up the Merlin of his P-51K-10NT 'Fragile but Agile', as flown by 2nd Lt Bert Lee, of the 342nd FS, 348th FG, out of San Marcelino AB, Luzon, in the Philippines, 1945. The correct serial, 44-12016, is on the starboard side of the fin.

Duxford is the home of Spitfires TD248 and BM597. The latter is owned by the Historic Aircraft Company, whilst TD248 is now in the hands of Richard Lake's Spitfire Ltd.

A3930 is the second R.E.8 built by TVAL in Wellington, New Zealand. The 'Harry Tate' is finished in the colours of IX Squadron, RFC, as flown in the winter of 1917. The aircraft will join the collection of the RAF Museum, Hendon.

HAC's Hurricane XII in a gentle curved approach to the grass runway at Duxford. G-HURI represents Hurricane IIb Z5140 as flown by 126 Squadron in the siege of Malta. Z5140 arrived in Malta in June 1941, having flown off HMS Ark Royal.

TFC P-47G is in the colours of P-47D 42-74742 based at Duxford in late '44. 'Snafu/War Eagle' of the 84th FS, 78th FG, was damaged beyond repair in a landing accident at Duxford on 15th December, 1944. 'VX' is flown here by Pete Kynsey, TFC's chief pilot.

John Romain about to land P9374 on the 24 grass runway. Propeller is in fine pitch, radiator door open, flaps down. The Spitfire Ia flares at 75 mph and seconds later settles gently on the Duxford turf.

P9374 is painted as it was on May 24th, 1940, the day it crash landed near Calais. The codeletters 'GR' of 92 Squadron had been removed shortly before, pending a diplomatic escort flight to France. The Spitfire is flown here by John Romain.

ZD461 came to Duxford on the 14th March, 2012, to be prepared for display in the new atrium of the IWM South Lambeth, London. The GR.9A had been in storage at RAF Cottesmore since March 2010 and is seen here in Hangar 5.

ZD461 in Hangar 5 at Duxford. The Harrier suffered CAT.3 fire damage on the 26th of January, 2010, after a brake failure during landing at Nellis AFB. ZD461 was stored at RAF Cottesmore after the Harrier fleet stand-down in December 2010.

Former Italian Air Force Harvard IV MM53795 has been operating from Duxford for some years now. It represents Harvard IIb KF729 in service with the Home Command Examining Unit (HCEU) at RAF White Waltham in the 1950s.

R4922 served with 7 EFTS during World War II. In the 1950s the Tiger Moth was converted to 4-seat Jackaroo. In 1976 R4922 was rebuilt as a standard Tiger Moth and is operated now by Classic Wings at Duxford for pleasure flights.

Martin Willing in his T-28S Fennec. The aircraft is in an AdlA c/s as worn in Algeria in the early 1960s. The badge under the cockpit is that of EALA 7/72 ‘Fennec’. With 12/72 it formed the new EALA 03/09, parented by EC 9 based at Bône airfield, Algeria.

85 Fighter Squadron badge on the portside of chin. The original “Lee’s Hope” had the artwork on both sides as well as a Vargas style pin-up on the starboard side of the rudder.

TFC staff applied a Vargas-style lady to the starboard side of White 17’s rudder, similar to the work of art seen on a number of war-time 79th FG Warhawks. The P-40F is piloted here by Stephen Grey.

The TFC Hawk was shipped to the France in April 1939 and issued to GC II/5 at Reims, thereafter based at Toul during the Battle of France. She survived the war came to Duxford in the 80's. The Hawk is in the markings of the 1ére Escadrille GC II/5.

Stephen Grey in his new P-40F prior to Duxford Air Show 2011. She has the emblem of 85th FS on the chin. The wartime Lee’s Hope carried the badge on both sides. The P-40 was assigned to 1st Lt Robert J. Duffield. He renamed it later as ‘Speedy Edie'.

F4U-NL F-AZYS is currently flying in the colours of a VMF-513 ‘Flying Nightmares' F4U-5N Corsair nightfighter. BuAerNo 123176/WF-19 was flown by Lt. Campbell of VMF-513 in Korea, 1951. The Corsair is displayed here by Brian Smith of the OFMC.
