Taken when 80-046 is landing on runway 20 on August 4, 1993. It had just been repainted after being in the AFI scheme with block lettering and white shadow. This style of the IS on the tail of 46 was unique to it and 80-0035 which had white outline.
Here shown in an earlier scheme than in my other photos of 592. Natural metal all over, bicentennial marking on fuselage and larger checkers in the tail checkerboard.
Doing a low flyby or low approach to runway 02, this T-bird is very picruresque, with its red areas, the Black Knights checkerboard and the large squadron insignia on the fin.
Sp-2H 214 from the left side. Parked behind the early warning (transient) ramp behind the big hangar 885 the doors of which originally had round opening holes to facilitate working on B-36 bombers with the tails stuck outside the opening!
Landing in formation with the rear aircraft touching down first. Taken during the first of two airspace control deployments that the German Air force made with the F-4Fs. The second and last was during 2012.
Taking off in the morning from runway 02. Taken during the first of two airspace control deployments that the German Air force made with the F-4Fs. The second and last was during 2012.
A Rockwell B-1B Lancer of the 7. BS at Dyess AFB landing on runway 02. It is caught during the first B-1 landing at Keflavik during Northern Viking 95.
Another VP-56, Dragons Orion parked on the flightline with one of the engineers checking the right outside engine and the access panels removed from the right inside engine.
Parked on the flightline. This VP-56 Orion is the only one that I have seen that has been through rework and has returned retaining the white outline to the fuselage insignia. This may seem like nitpicking, but no other Orion I have seen has had this.
Sitting on the taxiway waiting for permission to taxi out for take off for the last time from Iceland. The sun was very low on the horizon. This really gives a very good view of the last F-4 to leave Iceland.
Taxying in from the runway soon after coming back from Getafe, Spain after rework. It was the second F-4C to come back in a new finish of glossy grey, more in line with the air defence role of these aircraft with the 57th FIS.
Landing on runway 02 with 80-0029, these two keep perfect formation. Note that the presentation of the fin markings was changed between the time this photo was taken, and another taken at Fairford 1994.
Taken from F-15D, 80-0057 during climbing after an overflight of Reykjavík airport . This woke up the US Embassy in town, which was not happy at not having been informed or asked. The tower controllers were really happy having eagerly granted the visit.
Starting engines. Note the reflection in the puddle. A number of photographers were present, but they did not take notice of the reflection. Interesting to see two DC-4s in by the Lofteidir Hotel, where DC-4 and DC-6 operations took place in the 50s/60s
The 57th FIS of course made this into their bicentennial bird, like so many other units did with any aircraft that had 76 somewhere in its serial. 576 arrived in Iceland on February 7, 1975 and left on April 13, 1978 to the ADWC.
