This U.S. Navy LC-130F Hercules suffered an accident in the Antarctic in 1971 and remained in the snow for 17 years, her recovery makes for a fascinating story. She is now listed as in store at AMARG at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.

This LC-130F was distantly visible from the Pima AMARG tour bus as 'XD-03' last operated by VXE-6. She has had an interesting history having crashed on the Antarctic ice cap and been recovered to return to service. Her name 'Phoenix' is just visible.

One 'special' Navy Hercules variant was the LC-130F which is equipped with skis. This LC-130F was distantly visible from the Pima AMARG tour bus as 'XD-03' last operated by VXE-6. She has had an interesting history having crashed on the Antarctic ice cap.
