The warning signs indicate that this 'Hun' has been converted to QF-100F drone standard. Interestingly there appears to be some artwork on the inside of the nose wheel door.
Formerly operated by the 160th TFS / 187th TFG Alabama ANG out of Dannelly Field, Montgomerey, this 'Rhino' had been replaced in service by the F-16 just a year earlier. One source states that she left AMARC to be used by the US Army at Laquey, MO.
Previously operated by the 127th TFTS / 184th TFTG Kansas ANG 'Jayhawks' out of McConnell AFB, this F-4D entered AMARC in 1987 when replaced by the F-16A/B. She has since been marked as SOC, presumably scrapped.
One of the few 'Huns' left in AMARC in late 1989, this F-100F still wears the markings of her last operator, the 128th TFS / 116th TFW Georgia ANG based at Dobbins AFB near Atlanta.
An interesting find at AMARC in late 1989, it appeared as if this ex. Air National Guard 'Hun' was being prepared for conversion to QF-100F drone standard. She went on to become AD-409 with the 475th WEG
This F-4S was last operated by VF-202, a Reserve unit based at Dallas TX. Her Texas state markings on her tail fin rudder are a sharp contrast to her otherwise drab light grey colours.
Still wearing the markings of her previous operator, VF-161 'Chargers', which was based at NAS Atsugi, Japan, this F-4S is being prepared for 'bagging'; this was a not very successful method of preserving stored aircraft at AMARC.
This former VMFA-235 F-4S had been in store at AMARC for only a year when photographed in late 1989 and she was being prepared to be 'bagged' ie. wrapped in a PVC storage bag.
Love those old U.S. Navy high-vis markings! This beauty was last operated by VF-21 and was snapped on the arrivals/departures ramp at AMARC. She went on to be converted to QF-4N standard.
When photographed in AMARC in late 1989 this somewhat sandblasted F-4N wore the markings of her last operator, VF-201 which was a Reserve unit based at NAS Dallas TX. She went on to be converted to a QF-4N drone and was operated by NAWC-WD.
This F-4J had been in store at AMARC for six years when photographed in late 1989. Her 'SH' markings indicate last ownership by VMFAT-101 who were based at MCAS Yuma AZ.
Last operated by the 93rd TFS 'Florida Makos', an AFRES unit then based at Homestead AFB FL, this F-4D shows just how lo-vis military markings had become by the late 80's.
This F-4D was operated by the 307th TFS / 31st TFW based at Homestead AFB FL, entering AMARC in March 1988. She is recorded as sold to National for scrap in 1997, her nose section has survived and is being restored for static display.
Still wearing the markings of her last operator, the 'Happy Hooligans' 178th FIS / 119th FIG North Dakota ANG based at Fargo, this F-4D went on to Holloman AFB, NM for use as a target on the 12th Jan, 1998.
Still wearing the markings of her last operator, the New Jersey ANG 119th FIS / 177th FIG, this 'Six' went on to be converted to a QF-106 drone (AD224). She was shot down by a Stinger on 10th Oct 10 1996.
Also clearly seen from the AMARC tour bus on the Davis-Monthan ramp was this HH-3E operated by the 71st SOS / 919th SOW. She was originally constructed as a CH-3E, then converted to HH-3E standard. Sent to AMARC in 1992 then on to the Tunisian Air Force.
A very rare sight in 1989, a USAF operated OV-10A being 87-0405 which was formerly a USMC Bronco Bu.No 155405 and which was returned to the USMC sometime after this photo was taken. Believed operated by the 23rd TASS...
Another A-10A 'Hawg', most likely an OA-10A, again the 23rd TASS on the ramp at Davis-Monthan AFB. With special '602 TAIRCW' titles which I understand means Tactical Air Control Wing.
Photo taken from the USAF tour bus at Davis-Monthan AFB as it drove past the active ramp prior to entering the AMARC storage area. This OA-10A with 'NF' code which I believe was operated by the 23rd TASS out of Davis-Monthan AFB. Now in store in AMARC.
Formerly operated by the 127th TFTS / 184th TFTG of the Kansas ANG and still proudly marked 'Jayhawks', this worn F-4D had been in store in AMARC for just under a year when photographed in November 1989.
Previously operated by the Massachusetts ANG 101st FIS / 102nd FIW out of Otis ANGB, this T-Bird had been in store in AMARC for two years when I caught her in late 1989.
