Sitting on the flightline on its last day in Keflavik with the 57th FIS. One of the F-4Es 66-0300 still has no squadron markings. It was also the last F-4E to leave in 1985, see another photo of it that day.

Photographed at Selfrigde AFB, the home port of the 191st Fighter Squadron, Michigan Air National Guard. This is another F-4C that did not serve with the 57th FIS in Keflavik, but in the background one can see the fins of 63-7412 and 63-7576 that did.

Landing on runway 02, with the chains that remain from the old arresting system lining the runway. Behind the right main wheel, one can see the tops of the troposcatter communication antennas that linked the DEW line radar stations across the Atlantic.

From the 182nd TFS, Texas ANG. Shown landing at Keflavik for a two week stint with the 57th FIS. Landed late in the evening so the sun was nearly straight behind the aircraft while landing on runway 12. This F-4 went to AMARC as FP0057 Apr 21, 1987.

The Louisiana ANGs 159th FW brought 8 F-4Cs to Keflavik to augment the 57th, as some of their F-4Es went to William Tell 82, where they won the F-4 category. The nickname "Coonass Militia" was in 1992 deemed "politically incorrect". Became "Cajun milita"

Shown in its original 57th FIS camouflage and markings. The kill marking shown on some other photos of it from Keflavik, is not displayed on the right hand side, but the bicentennial marking is prominent.

Taxying in from the runway soon after coming back from Getafe, Spain after rework. It was the second F-4C to come back in a new finish of glossy grey, more in line with the air defence role of these aircraft with the 57th FIS.

The 57th FIS of course made this into their bicentennial bird, like so many other units did with any aircraft that had 76 somewhere in its serial. 576 arrived in Iceland on February 7, 1975 and left on April 13, 1978 to the ADWC.

F-4C 63-7576 was the 57th FIS bicentennial bird and carried this treatment for most of 1976 and well into 1977. Shown here taking off from runway 02.

This was the 57th FIS Bicentennial bird before it was with the Air Defnse Weapons Center and then later the Michigan Air National Guards 171st Fighter Squadron.

Here shown about to leave Iceland after its service with the 57th FIS. In this instance it has the partial paintwork that was applied to 63-7589. The third grey F-4C for the 57th FIS. was 63-7685, which came so late that it never received any sqn. marks.

Landing on runway 20 on 19. May 1977. It is carrying the William Tell markings for 1976 on its tanks, and seems reasonably healthy on this day. This aircraft was for a long time in 1975 at least a "hangar queen" and went by the nickname of "triple sick".

Doing a formation approach to runway 02. The tail paintwork on 63-7475 is starting to peel badly. Both aircraft arey carrying jamming pods on the inner pylons. The 57th pilots were not often caught doing formation landings. These landed seperately.

Landing on runway 20 at Keflavik in sunny weather. The F-4Cs from the 57th. FIS wore this paintscheme from early 1977 till the end of the F-4C era when the last C left on June 14, 1978. Note the chain beside the runway is part of the original arrest gear.
