This former USCG HU-16E Albatross was based at USCG Mobile, she was originally a USAF SA-16A. The '3' which is visible on the tail fin is very unusual.
Another view of HU-16E 1275 and my favourite photo of her, I love the way in which her paint scheme and added stencils have faded in the sun and have been sand-blasted during her long years in the desert. I think she was retired in the early 70's.
Originally built as an SA-16A Albatross, this aircraft was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard as a UF-1G, later redesignated as an HU-16E. She was photographed in store at AMARC in November 1989.
