Back to 4th November 1989 and the 'Photographer's Tour' at AMARC. This was KA-3B Skywarrior pcn 2A110 last operated by VAQ-208 out of NAS Alameda, CA as 'AF-652'. She was retired to MASDC in July 1975 and is now listed as in store in Chino.
Three Skywarriors on the VAQ-34 ramp at the Point Mugu Airshow in 1989. NA-3B BuNo 138944 '20' is to the fore. I love picking out the small subtle differences between the 'Whales'!
The VAQ-34 'Flashbacks' mission was the provision of tactical electronic warfare training to the fleet. Their Skywarriors were retired in 1991 and VAQ-34 was disestablished in 1993.
Her 'AF' markings suggest that this old 'Whale' was last operated by VAK-208, a refueling squadron based at NAS Alameda. In October 2003, after 28 years in store in the desert, she was released to the Yanks Air Museum, Chino, CA.
Formerly operated by VAQ-130 as TR-42, although marked as VAQ-135, this KA-3B (some sources refer to her as an EKA-3B) entered store in 1971 and was sold for scrap in 1994.
