This Convair F-106B Delta Dart was last operated by Rockwell as a chase plane in the B-1B programme. She entered AMARC 4th April 1989 and left for conversion to QF-106B in December 1989.
A new world speed record over a closed course was set by this F-106B on 17 December 1983. The Delta Dart averaged 710 mph between Wright Patterson AFB, OH and Kitty Hawk, NC. The 461 nautical miles were flown in 44 minutes and 45 seconds.
Used for the B-1B Chase Program. Left DM
Dec'93 to AEL Inc. East Alton, IL for drone conversion. W/O after a ground fire at Tyndall Jun'94. Purchased by a private owner and moved to El Paso TX in 2000.
This "Six" has had a fascinating later career. After her ADC days she was allocated to the ALC at Kelly AFB. Then she was used as a chase plane for the B-1B development programme. Then to Tyndall AFB to support the QF-106 drone programme. Now at Chino CA.
Nine Delta Dart fins, all formerly operated by the 325th FWW out of Tyndall AFB. The R/H fin is typical - into MASDC March 1984, converted to QF-106B drone standard from May 1994, shot down by an AIM-7M 16th May 1995.
This 'family model' Delta Dart was operated by the 325th FWW out of Tyndal AFB before she was retired to MASDC in Nov 83. Almost exactly ten years later she was taken out of store and converted to QF-106B drone standard as 'AD-264'.
Not all the F-106 Delta Darts wore colourful markings. This F-106B 57-2539 photographed in AMARC in February 1987 looked to be quite a "Plain Jane" and most likely last served with the Air Defence Weapons Centre (ADWC) at Tyndall AFB.
