VQ-2 Skywarrior making a low pass coming presumably from Rota, Spain. Pity for the bad weather because it was the only time I had it in front of my lens.
Orpheus equipped 132° Gruppo/3° Stormo Starfighters formation landing with MM6522/3-04. They were the last a/c to make a pass over the field after simulated attacks by the other assets on the final day of the Display Determination '86 exercise.
The 102nd Gruppo was deployed to Aviano for a few months while the runway was resurfaced in its home Base Rimini. MM only presumed as it's hidden behind the tip tank.
22° Gruppo/51° Stormo. Nose down emergency landing with the throttle locked at 100% RPM. The a/c engaged the barrier resting close to the runway end on the wheels rims, having lost the tyres in the desperate braking. A/c later repaired.
155° Gruppo/51° Stormo. The S version of the F-104 was fitted with the EAID (Engine Auxiliary Inlet Doors). The doors were opened only during take off to provide an increased air supply to the J79-GE-19 engine for added thrust in hot conditions.
