Grumman E-1B Tracer or 'Stoof With A Roof' Bu.No 148133 coded 'NS-13' last operated by VAW-111. She entered MASDC on 12th July 1973 (which was my 15th birthday!) and was sold to Consolidated Aero Corp nine years later. Must have been interesting to fly!
Initially planned as an interim design the Tracer was the Navy's primary carrier based airborne radar aircraft until the mid-1970s. The last of the 88 Tracers built left Navy service in November 1977!
The E-1 Tracer was the first purpose built airborne early warning aircraft used by the United States Navy. This well preserved example is on display at Pima Air and Space Museum.
