Auster Aircraft Ltd., modified two T.7s for the Commonwealth Trans Antarctic Expedition. WE563 became NZ1707 with the RNZAF and served two tours in the Antarctic, the first from December 1956 - March 1958, and then from December 1959 - March 1961.

In 1955 Auster Aircraft Ltd. modified T.7s WE563 and WE600 for the 1956 Commonwealth Trans Antarctic Expedition. The Model 4C, known as the Auster Antarctic, had extra radio equipment, larger tail surfaces and the ability to be fitted with floats or skis.

AOP.6 VF557 saw service with 666 Squadron in the late fifties and in civilian life was converted to the 6A version to meet the growing demand for a tough gliding tug. After Auster's had been absorbed into Beagle, the 6A was known as the Tugmaster.
