Assigned number 4 sqn. Photo'd Aug '80 @ Bex, Switzerland, code AN. Oct '80, rolled over and crashed while in hover @ Guterslough. Pilot killed on bail out.
This Harrier GR3 from the No.3 Squadron has been painted in an experimental camouflage to be used with the next generation Harrier - the GR5 version. It crashed in a field near RAF Gütersloh on May 20, 1988. The pilot was killed.
A preserved Harrier GR.3, this is XZ997 at the RAF Museum at Hendon in 2007. Difficult to photograph though, most angles silhouette her against large bright windows!
Harrier GR.3 XV751 was a new addition to the Gatwick Aviation Museum at Charlwood when this photo was taken in 2003. She had last served as a maintenance airframe with the FAA at Lee-on-Solent hence the colour scheme.
Falklands War veteran XZ129 served with 1 Squadron onboard HMS Hermes. After return to the UK she became instructional airframe A2602 with ETS at Yeovilton. XZ129 is now the only (complete) RAF Harrier on display in the Southern Hemisphere.
After withdrawl with the RAF this Harrier GR3 went to the Fleet Air Arm to serve as an instructional airframe with the Engineering Training School (ETS).
