A "Scooter" in warpaint! When this photo was taken at Pensacola in 1989 TA-4J Bu.No 154672 was operated by VFA-127 "Cylons" as NJ-711. The "Cylons" mission was to provide ACM training for all Pacific Fleet light attack squadrons, hence the unusual scheme.
On display in the static at the 1989 Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow in 1989, TA-4J was operated by Pensacola based VT-86 who wore the very distinctive black fin rudder on their "Scooters".
A must-see sight in the 1989 NAS Point Mugu Air Show static was this immaculate TA-4J Skyhawk. She was operated by VT-24 / TW-3 out of NAS Chase Field in Texas.
Just arriving back at Kingsville NAS from another training sortie, this TA-4J Skyhawk Bu.No 152847 was originally built as a TA-4F but was converted to become the first of the TA-4J training "Scooters".
This TW-2 Scooter was marked as "B-109" denoting TA-4J Bu.No 156899 in the Kingsville hangar for light maintenance. This photo nicely shows the wing forward edge slats which were mounted on rollers and slid back into the wing above a certain speed.
A very close view of TA-4J Bu.No 158519 on the Kingsville NAS ramp marked as "B-201". The yellow band, rudder markings and "CO" on the fin tip suggest that she is a "Boss Bird".
Operated by VT-22 out of NAS Kingsville TX, this TA-4J 'Scooter' was in the static display at the 1993 Point Mugu airshow. She is now preserved at NAS Pensacola.
