On display at March Field Air Museum, this F-86H Sabre has been beautifully restored and wears the bright orange livery of her first assignment in April of 1955, the 413th Fighter Day Group, Tactical Air Command, George Air Force Base California.
Back in October 1993 I think that the museum had recently moved from on-base to where it is located today. Many of the aircraft were then wearing questionable colour schemes as seen in this F-86H Sabre 53-1304 which has a sort of SEA camouflage scheme.
Photographed on a frigid February day in 1984. This jet languished in a Goldsboro NC city park until refurbished by the 4th Tactical Fighter Wing Maintenance personnel and placed on display.
Although the 4th FW never flew the H model this jet adorns the traffic circle in downtown Goldsboro NC, home of Seymour Johnson AFB and the 4th Fighter Wing.
The F-86H was the last of the non-radar equipped, day-fighter Sabres and was intended for use as a fighter-bomber capable of dropping nuclear weapons. It did, however continue in service with the Air National Guard into the 1970s!
