One of my favourite 'through the fence' photos at the Specialised Aircraft yard at Tucson in May 2008, this shot catches five Grumman Albatross aircraft in various stages of preservation.
A telephoto view of the unidentified HU-16 Albatross which appears to be close to a complete restoration in the Specialised Aircraft yard outside Tucson AZ.
Believed to be Grumman TU-16C Albatross formerly USN Bu.No 131917 now N7024Z. Snapped from the fence of the Specialised Aircraft compound just outside AMARG in May 2008
This former USCG HU-16E Albatross was based at USCG Mobile, she was originally a USAF SA-16A. The '3' which is visible on the tail fin is very unusual.
Another view of HU-16E 1275 and my favourite photo of her, I love the way in which her paint scheme and added stencils have faded in the sun and have been sand-blasted during her long years in the desert. I think she was retired in the early 70's.
This Grumman Albatross appears to be HU-16C Bu.No 137924 now civil register N7028C, she entered MASDC July 1967, last operated by the USN out of NAS Brunswick. Believed scrapped a year after this photo taken.
Nearing complete restoration, this is believed to be HU-16C N7026C ex Bu.No 149836 last based at Patuxent River. Taken from the fence line of the Specialised Aircraft compound just outside AMARG in May 2008.
