Phantom FGR.2 serial XV424 in No. 56 Squadron 'Firebirds' markings, she was powered by a pair of Rolls Royce Spey turbofans and as the F-4M was initially reluctantly accepted by the Royal Air Force. Now *much* missed!
Phantom FGR2 XV406 seen here at Solway Aviation Society. It is on display wearing the colours of 64 Sqn. However this jet has seen service with other Sqns notably 29(F) Sqn and 43(F) Sqn in its past.
For a moment I thought that I was wittnessing a crash of this 19sqn F4 . However the pilot pushed to full throttle and missed the fence by inches. Shot taken with a 50mm lens.
The mighty Phantom sitting on the Duxford Airfield basking in the sun. I miss seeing those mighty fighters in the air, as you can really only see them regularly in Germany, Greece (you'll get arrested there), Turkey, Japan, and Israel.
