This airframe was delivered to the USN in 1941 as "2459". After its military career, it served as a tanker with Avalon Aviation Ltd till 1973. In 1994 it went to The Netherlands where restoration to airworthy conditions began.
Catalina PH-PBY entered service with the US Navy in 1941(BuAerno.2459). After the war the aircraft went to Canada. PBY represents Catalina '16-218'which served with 321 Squadron from 1942. It was eventually scrapped in 1957.
A head on shot of the PBY-5A in the approach to Lelystad Airport. The aircraft is actually a Canadian Vickers "Canso A", hence the construction number "CV-300". An impressive sight in a clear blue sky..!
