How does the database software count photo views and determine the Most Popular photos? I'm seeing numbers that don't make sense.

If I go to the Search & Stats page and select to view the "Most Popular Photos" of the past month, I'm first shown Neil Jones's MH-53M air-to-air, and told it's had 236 views. But there are other photos in the past month with more views, such as Rob Tabor's F-4F air-to-airs -- this one, has 563.

Similarly, if I use the search engine, sort by "Most Popular," and leave the other fields empty, the 14th and 15th images on the first page are a Tiger-schemed Rafale at NTM 08. On the results page they're listed as having 2866 and 2796 views respectively. But go the the images themselves, (here and here) and you're told the number of views is 293 and 238.

Does the software need a remedial math course?

BTW, no disrespect intended to Neil, Mark, Markus, or their images.

Also, it looks like the forum software doesn't like apostrophes in thread titles!

There is a difference between views and distinctive views. I don't know what it exactly is maybe distinctive views are how many times the image has been seen in his large version?

The numbers on the search results page simply show how many times a photo has been viewed. If I really like a photo and view it on several occasions then that number gets incremented while the "Distinct Views" will not go up. The order of the most popular photos in search results is based on that number. Everything else is, or rather should be, based on Distinct Views only. But I see something is not right when viewing top of last month, week, etc. I will have a look and see what has gone wrong. Thanks for reporting it Mark.

Hi all,
This has been changed to show the proper photos now. The photos of all time will continue to reflect the order based on total views. We had it based on "Distinct Views" for a long time, but eventually the database got so large, with over 2 million rows, that we simply couldn't continue storing all the data based on distinct views only.

Another modifications was made to the Top Photo of Last 24 Hours. Previously once in that spot, a photo could not be in that category again, ever. Now it can, but only after one month. This was done initially to prevent the same photo from appearing in that spot day after day, after day.
