Hi all,

Unfortunately, had to implement another rejection rule: Not Different Enough. We've been getting way too many uploads where photos are taken a mere one or two seconds apart and the angle is only slightly different. Just too similar, and people really keep pushing the limits.

As always, all rejection reasons pertain to you and your photos only.

I do not see the point of uploading many similar shots as well. Is it just for the ranking regarding number of photos and hits... ? But anyhow...

This rejection reason is good news for a better, therefore more, variety on the site

This is good. A friend and I were talking last week how three of the top five looked identical other than the position of the RBF flags.

If the photos are from different photographers, that's ok. All rejection rules apply only to the same photographer. For ex. if you get a rejection for "Too many like photos." it means too many like photos from you only, not other photographers and you.

Another example that the rules imposed to upload "similar" photos are NOT respected ... or are the "top" up-loaders exempted from this?
See today's TOP5 => pictures ID 276578 & 276579 => same aircraft, same serial, same location, same photographer ... NOT done!

That's ok, those two are different enough. You can have different views, as long as they are not too similar.

I think it's a good idea. I don't understand why upload 2, 3 and even 4 similar photos from the same photographer. It is repetitive and can be boring!

I think this is a solid rule to implement. As has been said already, uploading multiples of almost the same angle of the exact same aircraft is, in my opinion, pointless. The screeners already have their hands full as it is, so it certainly can't help to overload them with, shall we say, photo-spam.

I mean, don't get me wrong...I remember being new as a photographer two decades ago, discovering sites on which I could showcase my shots, and nearly busting a nut uploading everything I could.

But then thankfully I grew up, so to speak. As I became more aware and had been mentored by a few solid photographers who'd been at it for quite awhile, I learned more of what to do, and what not to do.

In any case, I am confident that spamming the screeners will make them like us less. lol

AGAIN !
3 pictures uploaded from the SAME aircraft, SAME location, SAME date & SAME photographer!
=> 276953, 276954, 276955.
Similar "positions" of the same F-16 have already been posted by other photographers (limiting themselves to at least one upload).
! This creates unnecessarily longer waiting times for other photographers to get their perhaps more interesting photos screened.
This photographer is clearly trying to create more hits and a higher ranking in the statistics ...

How are those photos similar? Those are completely different sides of the aircraft! Again, we don't care about other photographers, it's not a race to see who gets a particular shot accepted first.

Sorry, I don't think you understand what this rejection rule is.

Falcon16, how are those three photos similar?

Oh well, those three photos were taken within maybe not even two minutes from each other, and show the same plane / tail number.
I might judge two of them a bit similar, but honestly not that much. One might say they are stretching the new rule a bit, but they do not touch it.
Also I'd consider the motive different enough, so I can understand accepting all of them in the database.
(other sides though only allow two images per sequence. But I think here on AF it is handled very reasonably.)

Two more things to consider: the upload mechanism does support, even facilitate, uploading multiple images of the same plane, and even more so on the some date. Once you have uploaded a photo and have not added any particular comment, it is 'fire and forget' for all the following photos, as you just need to choose a new photo and click submit.
Also it is human nature to desire to look good if there is a ranking / competition (views, hits, or maybe also numbers of photos in the database).
This makes it all an understandable action, even though some self-imposed limitation would be beneficial by times. And if not, there will be new rules once it becomes to hard for others... Just like this recent one.

Regards

Andreas

Andreas, I agree with you that a self-imposed limitation would be nice, human nature does take over and some like to have big stats. Falcon16 is complaining about those pictures being to similiar, which they are not, but has accepted photos of his like 274714 and 27415. Yes, they are different aircraft but unless you play "spot the difference" they are virtually indistinguishable from each other.
