Thought I"d let those that live in the southern CA area know that there are a couple airshows this weekend. The Riverside air show is Saturday only. They plan on landing a C-17 on a fairly short runway; should be worth seeing. Also, the NAS Point Mugu show is both Saturday and Sunday, featuring the Thunderbirds.

Mike,
Thanks for the info. I wonder if I should've waited and gone to one of these air shows instead of El Centro - that was a hot day.

I usually try to avoid the word "wait" when it comes to air shows, and instead use the word "also". That way I can justify going to both! :wink

The Riverside show was exciting, and I'll get some shots up soon I hope. The only drawback was a 300 foot tall wall of dirt when the C-17 took off. It quite literally blew right over the crowd, and actually dimmed the sun about 40%. Exciting!!!! It was a bit of a long day (it was hot, although far from El Centro), and it's convinced me to put off Point Mugu until next year.

Hmm, sounds interesting. My goal is to this year attend more shows than I've done in the past few years. I will most likely be at the Salinas and Sacramento shows as well. They are both about one and a half hour's drive from me. Maybe I'll see you at one of those?

It's possible, although I tend to hit the 6-8 within a few hours of Orange County: El Centro, Riverside, March ARB, Cable, Chino, Miramar NAS, Point Mugu, etc. I hit Nellis (outside Las Vegas) last November on a whim, and it turned out to be a fantastic venue for photography. The desert air is clear and crisp, the sun at an oblique, and a nice mountainous backdrop.

I'd like to try and make Fleet Week in San Francisco this year. I've not been to that one, but hear it's a nice venue for photography.

Anyone have any suggestions in around their areas? I think I'd go to more shows if I heard other&񗝉s reviews of them, and could make an informed decision.
