Hello everyone I am fairly new to this site, and although I'm a huge fan of it I am getting extremely frustrated with not finding the right size to post my pics. I have a lot of pics I would like to share with you, unfortunately most of my pics are taken with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5)and on the ground due to the job I am in. I don't have the luxury of always using my camera so my phone has to do, unfortunately I guess because of the way my camera phone takes the pics the dimensions are weird. Every time I try to re-size my photos to 1200x800 my pics look squished, and when I try to crop them I always have to cut off the planes. I just want to know if there is anyone out there that has had the same issue as I and that can guide me on how to fix this, or if I'm basically s.o.l. because of the way the phone takes the pics. Thanks for taking the time to read my message and hope to get some help. Admin has been trying to help me but I still can't figure this out.

Just use the 1200x800 size as aspect ratio and crop in the airplane. The final size is the last step. Have a look at http://www.airfighters.com/page.php?id=129 and 'bonne chance'

Muuuuhhh - welcome in the land of milk and chocolate

Most probably you are taking photos at 16 MP, where the S5 delivers an aspect ratio of 16:9. This makes it difficult to crop them to 3:2 or 4:3 afterwards.
Either following Grimmi's description or switch your phone to 12 MP @ 4:3.

Btw. this brings up the interesting question how many mobile phone are actually up here on airfighters?!

Regards

Andreas

Why should this question be interesting Andreas?
It's absolutely not important how or with what kind of camera the pictures are made.
Only the picture itself is important. Not less and not more...

Maybe I haven't understood what you wanna say.
If you only want to know how many mobile phone are in use by airfighters-members, then I would say nearly every member has one

how many mobile phone photos are actually up here on airfighters ... I wanted to say.

At least you had another reason talking trash to me, Martin
And if it is interesting for me to know, I do not care at all what it means to you.

I am also interested to know how many images on the site have been taken using a mobile phone.

Unless you know the answer Martin don't bother to comment.

Guys I really appreciate all your answers, I apologize I am not great with computer programs but I try my best. Also I apologize if my post caused some of you to argue, truth is I just love Military Airplanes and taking pics of them. I would sketch them if I had too, but I normally use my phone because its easier and faster to take some shots while I fuel an aircraft and move to the next one. I would also like to take a minute to thank everyone on here for sharing your pictures, everyone from what I have seen has amazing pictures, once I get the hang of this I hope you can all enjoy mine. Thanks again.

Martin, you're not really adding anything to the discussion. Please refrain from making any personal comments towards another member.

That's actually a great question, Andreas. I too would like to know if we have a few photos in the database that were taken with a phone camera. Unfortunately, we don't parse the EXIF data on uploaded photos, so I don't have a quick way of getting the info. While phone cameras have come a long way, I personally don't think the photos will be good enough to be accepted in most cases. It's not the number of MegaPixels, but rather a limitation of the lens. But, that's just my personal opinion. I could be wrong.

Jesus - your photos in queue look a lot better. I think some will definitely get approved. One thing, please make sure you always take a shot of the serial number of every plane you photograph, for reference later. As you can see, the data is very important. Photos, with missing data rarely get approved or most often sit in the queue for a long time until we have the time to look up the data. So please keep that in mind.

There is nothing that you have to apologize for Jesus.
You love aviation and like to take photos. That's great.
As you write, you have good opportunities taking photos when you're working. So you probably have a dreamjob....
I'm looking forward to see your photos. No matter, if they are taken by a mobile phone or a camera....

Admin thanks for answering and I apologize if I did not take serial numbers before, I had no idea this was important but from now on I will start taking pics of that. Hunter Mk58 I appreciate your support, and I appreciate everyone that took the time to answer my post. I by no means am a professional photographer as I have tons to learn from the pics I've seen here, but I hope to get at that level someday. I will continue to upload what I have and hope you guys can enjoy them, I do love all this and I love my job because it provides an opportunity to be close to military aircraft. Thanks again and I'll continue to move forward.

Hi all, my name is Kostas.

I also have the same problem when trying to resize my pictures. I use the online editor https://pixlr.com/express/, and all my original photos are 1920 x 1080 (width x height). when I'm changing the dimensions of the photos, to what the screeners propose me in order for the photo to be accepted
(for example that is something I see all the time when trying to upload photos
Dimensions: 1600x900px. Warning! Photo too low by 166px. Photo will not be accepted. Suggest 1600x1066px, but can be up to 1200px high for 1600px width. Please <<ReUpload>> another size.)

it seems that the photo goes either stretched or squeezed, and that spoils the aircrafts shape......

but although I've uploaded some photos several times, and in different sizes (as the site proposed for the photo to be accepted) all the times the photos were rejected.

Could someone experienced tell me what to do?

And something else. In one of my uploads, I added a comment to screeners telling them all the things I write here, just to tell what am I doing wrong, and to get advice from them....They didn't even bother to answer me, something that I find quite rude.

Come on gyus, we all love this site and want to help your work by uploading more photos, but some people don't help us at all.

Please tell me what you have done so far to help yourself? Which videos have you watched? Which instructions have you followed? Which guides did you read? Please list them all. Links to the YouTube videos you have watched would be great. Then we can take it from there...

Sorry but I don't understand what you mean.

Which videos are you referring if I have watched?
And which guides have I read?

I don't think that many, maybe none here, uses that program. That's why it's a good idea to try to figure it out yourself before asking for help. It's not that nobody wants to help, it's just that it's one of those programs that hardly anyone uses. Most people here use Photoshop or something similar.
