I'm new here, and working on additional photos to contribute, but I wanted to get this out there: I wrote a book about my early years as an F-14 Tomcat radar intercept officer (RIO, the guy in back) and Navy Topgun instructor. Called TOPGUN DAYS, it was published in June. I am very pleased with the number of photos the publisher included and their quality. I'm also happy with the text -- but figured photos would be the main interest here.

My website, www.TopgunBio.com, has some of the photos from the book plus additional images not used.

All photos in the book and the website came from my first two squadrons: VF-24 Fighting Renegades and Topgun. Here at AF I'll bring photos from later units that are my favorites.

I read the book and it's very interesting, a good read. Hope it's only part one of a trilogy from BIO.

I'm happy to report that Barnes & Noble now offers a NOOKbook version of my book, TOPGUN DAYS. Link to their site is:
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/TOPGUN-Days/DAVE-BARANEK/e/2940000921937/?itm=2

TOPGUN DAYS is the all-true, action-filled story that puts readers in the cockpit of the mighty F-14 Tomcat fighter, surviving a life-or-death ejection during a carrier-landing mishap, and then joining the ranks of Topgun as an instructor.

Full of adventure, the book has themes of camaraderie and perseverance, and provides a behind-the-scenes look at making the blockbuster hit, "Top Gun."

TOPGUN DAYS is also available for Kindle < http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003UTU59E >, and of course as a hardcover book < http://amzn.com/1616080051 >.

For more information, photographs, flying videos, and stories, visit my website: < http://www.TopgunBio.com >.

Thumbs up! - Bio

I was in 24 from 1981-84. Made one deployment on Constellation and one on Ranger. Ranger was getting kind of shaggy in 1983-84, and went into the shipyard afterwards. I was back on Rangerin 1987 with VF-2 and she was back in top shape.

I thought CAG Nine was a tight group.

Hi Airfighters - I put the finishing touches on my schedule for a visit to San Diego:
Tue, April 19, 7:30pm: Book signing at Warwick's book store, La Jolla http://warwicks.indiebound.com/event
Wed, April 20, 11:30 am: Book signing and sales at Kansas City Barbeque, Downtown http://www.kcbbq.net/
Both events will go about two hours.
I'll also be doing a couple of morning TV interview: April 19: Fox 5 Morning Show, scheduled for approx 7:15. April 20: KNSD 39/7 with Jason Austell, scheduled approx 6:15. (That's early!)
I'm signing books again at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museums (downtown Washington and Udvar-Hazy), now that tourist season has started. I go there a few weekends a month and it continues to be a lot of fun. I meet interesting people, aviation fans and dreamers, and people looking for a gift. A signed book is perfect!
Hard to believe it's been 25 years since the movie came out! If you're not in San Diego, please pass this along to friends who may be interested. Thanks - Bio <www.TopgunBio.com>

Limited-time low price for e-book of TOPGUN DAYS.
If you've been waiting, or just got a reader (Kindle, Nook, etc.) for Father's Day, this is the time to buy:
In honor of the 100th anniversary of Naval Aviation, and the 25th anniversary of the release of "Top Gun," the publisher is offering my e-book TOPGUN DAYS for a very low price. (It was $4.99 when I checked, but retailers set their own prices.)
This offer should be good until early August.

A note about book sales: the price will be $22.95, which is $2 off the cover price. in addition, $2 from each sale goes to the museum. The autograph is free.
