The Australian government has decided to procure 7, new-build CH-47F Chinook helicopters.

Could these new airframes be relief for assets already deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan? I have never flown in a CH-47, but know it to be the fastest chopper in the US Army inventory. Thoughts? |

The Chinook is one of the most valuable assets as far as helicopters go in the war effort in Afghanistan. It flies where many other helos simply cannot perform because of altitude and temperature etc. CH-47F brings all the digital avionics and fly by wire technology to the CH-47 airframe. Canada has been speculating for years on these it's just that they cant make up their mind on what they want for a "Canadianized Chinook". Good on Australia for acquiring 7 of these heavies.
