I was just surfing the Commemertive Air Force website(confederateairforce.org) and found out the USAF went to court to take back the F-82 twin mustang it gave them over 40 years ago. This is a travesty. The plane should be a flying tribute. This is also a tremendous waste of taxpayer money and CAF money that should go into aircraft. E-mail the CAF your support. Send an E-mail to the USAF Museum and tell them to back off.

I was just informed that all compromises and appeals have fell through. The CAF even offered to keep the F-82 as a static display. It is being shipped back to the USAF museum in Dayton. Without the CAF the plane would have been an ingot of Aluminum. I wish I could give something away and then reclaim it 40 years later when it is valuable. Only a federal government can get away with that.

I heard this about 6 months ago.. There was a petition going around on another site. It failed... I would rather keep this bird flying too. Sad day indeed.

I have heard this news also. The problem with this bird is the USAF still owned the aircraft. They did not transfer title to the CAF all those years ago.
On a side note there is a group restoring the Prototype F-82 to flight status, and if i read correctly they have the title to the aircraft. |

Actually the CAF did receive a gift deed from the USAF back in the sixties. They used that to get a state of Texas title. This was overruled in Federal court. Good luck to the restoration effort. Good to see.
