The F.24 was the last variant of this iconic fighter to enter RAF service. In total production amounted to just 78 aircraft with the first 24 airframes produced as Mark F.22 at Castle Bromwich. All other F.24s were built at South Marston. Several F.22 aircraft were later modified in service as F.24s.
RAF Spitfire F.24s served only with No.80 Squadron at RAF Gütersloh and Kai Tak, Hong Kong. By 1952 most aircraft had been placed in storage.
