One of a number of Egyptian AF Phantoms fuel stopping at Aviano enroute to/from depot level maintenance in the USA. All had the national flags painted over.
526th TFS/86th TFW visiting Aviano still sporting the badge of the previous operator, the 52nd TFW. The a/c short lived with the unit being accidentally shot down by another F-4E at Tyndall only a month later on April 15 1981.
469th TFS/50th TFW. This a/c seems having served with 4 of the F-4E USAFE bases in 5 years (1978/83) (CR/RS - but I haven't seen photographic evidence of that - HR/SP). So it was a normal feature to paint the new code over the weathered old one.
One of the couple of Ec 3/3 "Ardennes" Mirages taxying to the runway for take off after a brief visit to Neuburg. This a/c is now preserved at Elvington, UK.
First production MB-339A arriving for the Aviano Open Day. Having discovered (after some years!) that the MM54401 was already assigned to a G-91T it was soon after reserialled MM54438.
465th FS/419th FW(507th FG). One of the twelve a/c deployed to Aviano for the Coronet Soldier exercise. This F-16 is the oldest one ever in US markings to land in Aviano.
9th RW Stratotanker taking off sporting the short lived BB code. One of the many KC-135Q tankers going to/from Alconbury to bring equipment for the single U-2R detachment started on September 5. See #159680 photo for the U-2.
