„PLUTO 11“ is preparing on treshold RWY 31 to take off for training approaching at Brno-Turany airport. This year had a Alca’s fleet an accident in which two-seater L-159T1 during flight near Kolin city in the height 3500m lost the cockpit canopy.

Gripen (9238) has during taxiing opened telescopic extension for in-flight refuelling. That is always after air-to-air refuelling due to inspection of the technician on apron. In cockpit of this machine is a well known pilot from Flying Bulls team.

Ground personel of the 211. Tactical Squadron is preparing for a discharging sharp 27mm rounds (red strip) of the Mauser BK-27 cannon and store them at ammunition box. The Gripen’s ammunition case of the BK-27 cannon enables to charge 120 rounds.

Another fully armed Gripen 9245 is seen on South Apron after arrival from Iceland mission ASICIPPN III. Seven Gripen pilots under commanding of the pplk. Jaroslav Tomana conducted on Iceland 120 sorties and logged 166 flying hours.

Gripen 9237 in fully armed configuration. Czech AF received a total of 100 Sidewinders under the program FMS. First in 2002 year received a 20 pieces of the AIM-9M-2 for the L-159s, subsequently in 2005 year received a 80 pieces of the AIM-9M-8/9 variant.

Gripen (9235) has already get down both Sidewinders from wingtip launchers and missiles are stored on a special trolley. Some Czech’s AIM-9M-8/9 Sidewinders have on fuselage an inscription „U.S. NAVY – NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND“.

A new flagship of the 211 Squadron, the „Fiery Tiger“ is seen on the South Apron after arrival from Iceland. Czech AF received a total of 24 missiles AIM-120C-5 under the program FMS in 2007. Full operational capability was achieved on 1st January 2009.

During 3000km longer flight (nearly 4 hours) from Keflavik airport to home base at Caslav, the Gripens conducted air-to-air refuelling with a USAFE tanker KC-135R (callsign QUID 455) from 100th Air Refuelling Wing at RAF Mildenhall, United Kingdom.
