VP-11, Pegasus was a frequent sight in Keflavik from the time they received their update Orions, and are here on the usual parking spot. All of their planes on this deployment had the same last digit of the BuNo as the modex or nose number, here 9.
This VP-23 Orion is parked on the sloping ramp south of the VP hangar with the old civilian terminal visible in the background. The beautiful Seahawk markings stand out.
One of the VP-40 Laging Handa Orions on the flight line at Keflavik. One of the special VP-40 identifying features of VP-40 was that they painted the cockpit window posts black.
Taking part in Northern Viking 97, this B-52 has to be closely watched while towed arounf the too narrow Keflavik taxiways so that the wingtip wheels do not hit any obstacles.
Just before touchdown on runway 20, this F-16 has markings to commemorate the 45th anniversary of 312 Squadron. It was in Keflavik for Norvik 97. Note the horizontal tail on the F-16 is in line with the fuselage angle, opposed to the F-15s horizontal lie.
Photographed at the 1967 Reykjavík Airshow. According to Baugher it was ex-USAF 52-6128. Became N99830 (Hillsborough County Civil Defense, FL), then C-GOER.
The first NATO aircraft to stand watch at Keflavik International Airport after the USAF left were Mirage 2000 from the French AF. They stayed in Iceland for six weeks.
One of the first squadrons to get the P-3B model was VP-24, Batmen, shown here on the ramp at Keflavik in 1968. It arrived at MASDC on Sep 9, 1993 after finishing its USN service.
VP-40 was to my knowledge only deplyed once to Keflavik at least while squadron code letters and BuNos were indentifiable. It was during the VP-40 deplyment that overpainting of the code letters and numbers started.
VP-16, Eagles deployed to Keflavik more than once with their P-3Cs like the one shown here. Later they got the P-3C Update II.5 and also brought those to Keflavik.
All of the VP-16 P-3s had nose number coinciding with the last digit of their BUNo, like this one. They managed that also with their Update II.5 series that they brought to Keflavik later.
