The YO-3A is a low altitude SILENT STEALTH night reconnaissance airplane that was developed for the U.S. Army for use in the Vietnam War. NASA acquired this YO-3A in the mid 70's and converted it to a flying microphone.
Seen at Edwards AFB on the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center tour, this was F-15A serial 71-0287 as 'HIDEC' which stands for 'Highly Integrated Digital Electronic Control'. February 1987.

This plane has quite a long history. It started its career with the USAF as KC-97G (52-2693). It was converted to a YC-97J, flying test bed. Afterwards this plane was the first one to be converted to a Super Guppy, to serve for NASA.

A tour of the NASA Dryden Flight Research Facility at Edwards AFB in early 1987 found this former West German Lockheed TF-104G Starfighter serial 28+09 in NASA markings. She joined NASA in 1975.
