The YO-3A is a low altitude SILENT STEALTH night reconnaissance airplane that was developed for the U.S. Army for use in the Vietnam War. NASA acquired this YO-3A in the mid 70's and converted it to a flying microphone.
General Dynamics F-16XL Fighting Falcon on static display at "Flight Test Nation 2009", Edwards AFB, California. This is a very unique aircraft , being one of only two F-16A/B airframes converted to the experimental cranked arrow design.
This plane has quite a long history. It started its career with the USAF as KC-97G (52-2693). It was converted to a YC-97J, flying test bed. Afterwards this plane was the first one to be converted to a Super Guppy, to serve for NASA.
Too large to take a full photo from the USAF tour bus, this Super Guppy was easily the most impressive aircraft on display on AMARC's 'Celebrity Row'. The early morning sun highlights the complex structure of her forward fuselage.
