Harvard IIa NZ1053 (ex USAAF 41-33769; ex RAFEX796) is owned by the Harvard 53 Syndicate, Auckland. The Mark IIa Harvards were originally delivered with wooden rear fuselages and tailplanes, but these were later replaced by metal components.
FE992 entered RCAF service in 1943 as RCAF-20208, flying with the Service Flying Training Schools at RCAF Moncton, New Brunswick, and later at RCAF Weyburn, Saskatchewan. After the war FE992 became Fv16047 with the Swedish Air Force.
During restoration work on Newark's latest Harvard, Noorduyn built IIb FE930 (42-12417), under layers of paint (a blue US Navy scheme as well as an Italian air force c/s), traces of Dutch ownership resurfaced. The trainer served with the RNethAF as B-163.
