On January 10, 1964, this B-52, at the hands of Boeing test pilots, encountered severe turbulence which ripped off the vertical fin. Miraculously, they were able to land safely at Blytheville AFB. 2nd Bomb Wing / 20th Bomb Squadron.
This is the RIAT Departures Day on 20th July 2009, B-52H 61-0029 turning onto the runway and a telephoto shot of the nose, all those lumps and bumps, and what look like mission markings. From this angle how these things actually fly is a mystery!
