Just passing by and noticed your post was in 2009. I recently got the the Affinity Photo program for my iMac. It was $40.00 and has received great reviews. Some even comparing it to Adobe Lightroom. Anyway there a lot of instruction videos for it on U tube and they cover a lot of features like the histogram. Might give that a try.
