Hello guys.
I'm new here in this forum, but i checked this page everyday and i enjoyed all those wonderful aviation pics  So, a few words about myself. My name is Dennis and im 23 years old. I live in Germany directly to the dutch boarder (10 mins to ETNG Nato Airbase Geilenkirchen) But im more interested in Jets. So im not that often at ETNG and now, here we go with my question... i want to by a "new" camera, but I don't know if the "Canon EOS 300D" is good enough for the situations where i want to take some pictures. So im not that often at a military base to take some shots of landing / starting planes... The most pics im shooting at airshows / spotter days etc. So i want to capture the jets etc in full action modes  Some people told me, that the EOS 300D is not fast enough for that kind of pics, but at the moment i don't have thousands of Euros to buy a new high end camera .. Si im going to be very happy if anyone of you guys can help me out. Cuz next weekend is already volkel airshow Vulcan here i come .. and i hope with a "new" cam ;D Greetz Dennis |

I started with the Canon 400D, then moved on to the 40D. Coupled with a Canon 100-400mm IS lens, both camera body's are good. And as far as i no the prices of the 400D or a second hand 40D are pretty good. But remember one thing . . . . . . it's not so much the camera, but the person holding it. Practice makes perfect :wink

Hi Denis,
I am not an Canon-User, but one thing is for sure: The Lens is more important than the body ! But you can see most Canon-Users uses the lens that slinky snake recommended. The cam ist not fast enough ? All good photographs live with the devise 'one shot one hit !' - with camera in Kalashnikov-mode one of 100 pics is maybee good, but this can not bee the real thing I think

hey guys,
Thx for you quick replys !! Atm a friend of mine .. found a shop with a "hot deal" for a Nikon D40 incl. a 2nd lens (something with 300 i remember  ) so where is the difference between those cams? i tryed to find out my self... but i cant find any difference. Oo many greetz.... and grimmi, yea you are right .. and i love your "camera in kalashnikov mode" But, i really dont want to use the kalashnikov mode but if i need it, im happy that my cam has this mode .. u know what i mean ? "Better u have one and dont need it, then u need one and dont have it .. "

Hey Dennis i have the D40. When i bought it i was contemplating wether i should get the 40 or spend a few hundred more and get something like D80 (there was no D90 or D5000 at the time and iwasnt buyting Canon. I went with the D40 simply because i didnt want to spend an arm and a leg on a camera only to find out i suck at photography. It's a good beginner camera, i've learned a lot from it. The only drawback is that being only 6 megapixels, you cant really crop a lot. with the kit 18-55mm and a 55-200mm im pretty happy. Soon a 70-300 VR hopefully.
Like it was mentioned above, invest in good lenses, new bodies with extra features come out every 6 months. |

okay guys .. here we go...
yesterday i bought my camera .. none of the 2 where i spoke of .. im sorry 4 that .. but i bought the Canon EOS 1000D for a good price .. today ive got to go for a 300mm lens .. so im very happy with that cam .. i diddnt had the chance to test it yet ... but on friday im going to hunt the vulcan in Volkel (NL) So stay tuned for the first pics of my new cam thx a lot guys Greetz from Germany Dennis |
