Dear Photographers,
It is crucial that the photo data be 100% accurate at time of upload. Lately, too many photos have been uploaded with inaccurate data or simply missing. Registration numbers are often left off while blatantly visible in the photo. Even if not in plain view, please take a moment to find the missing data from other websites. There are several sources on the web at your disposal. Inaccurate or incomplete data may exclude the photo from search results and compromise the integrity of the database. Please do your best to be as complete and accurate as possible. Time constraints make it very difficult for me to hunt the correct info, and corrections take even longer to accomplish. Lets get it right the first time. I think you will agree that this is in everyone's best interest.

For those people looking for construction numbers or exact aircraft types (i.e. is it a C-130B/E/H or J you photographed) I would like to suggest the following website: www.ondutchwings.nl/db.php

Select the country of a specific aircraft, type the registration number (serial) and you wil find some very useful information regarding that aircraft.

Just a thought, I have noticed when uploading that some popular aircraft types do seem to be missing quite significant variants in the aircraft type drop down menu. For example I have just submitted an F-4N yet this variant of the Phantom II is not listed, however the less numerous QF-4N is. I think I had the same issue a while back with the HC-130 Hercules variants. Do you plan to go back and perhaps review some of the more popular/numerous military aircraft types and make them a little more comprehensive? I do understand that this will take much time so just asking nicely

Hi Michael,
When I created the drop-down menus for location and aircraft, it was impossible to cover every single type and sub-type. After a while it got pretty exhaustive to the point where I even left out some manufacturers all together. But, that is the next thing to get upgraded and will be much better than the current version, including an "auto-fill" feature to automatically fill in data based just on the registration number. Having an auto-fill feature from the beginning didn't make sense, as there was nothing in the database to search and fill from. Now with over 6000 photos and growing, I think it will work now. So, hang in there a little longer. A better version is on it's way.

This auto-fill sounds like a brilliant idea.

I am worse than useless at aircraft recognition as I am sure your photo-screeners can testify lol ! I struggle telling the difference between various variants of the F16 for example. I tend to trawl through the internet the best I can by googling the registration number (if I can read it from my pics) and typing in 'F16' or whatever the plane is, in the hope I get the right variant. Hopefully the auto-fill will ease some of my own legwork, although it is pretty entertaining trying to find out what is what.

Cheers Ray for all that you are doing, and above all, keep it up

Tim
