Some of you may have noticed the photos not looking as good as they used to. Or as good as the one on your hard drive after upload. We're doing a little bit of image optimization to help the download speed of the photos, but it's a bit over-done at the moment. We will get it right soon. Rest assured, the original photos are not affected in any way. It's just the output to your browser.

Ray, from an uploader's point of view, is there an ideal or optimum size or 'weight' of photo upload? Personally I aim for 1024x768 in size and about 300KB in file weight. Very 'ish'.

Some of the best photos I have seen uploaded are in the 350KB area. It all has to do with optimization. 1024x768 is a good size for most monitors. These days almost all monitors are going to the widescreen format which allows for wider photos like 1280 or even up to 1600px without horizontal scrolling. Depending on the quality of the photo I would not generally recommend 1600px wide. You have to start off from a 8 or 10 Megapixel photo to be able to optimize it and still get high quality results. I think the trend is towards the wider photos, so if you can do it, then why not. Sometimes I see people upload at 1440 or 1600 with borderline photos, and that simply doesn't work.

Ok, everything back to normal now. There was a slight compression happening that has now been removed.
