I just wonder why there are no Tomcats in european museums on display. I know that some of the retired birds are on display in the US, some are in storage, and the others get shredered.
Wouldn`t it be better, to sent some of them to Europe? What about the museum at Duxford, UK? I think, the Cat would fit perfectly in their collection. F-14 Tomcat 4-ever!:) |

Probably something to do with the risk of parts ending up in Iran? But I do agree that one would look very nice at Duxford.

They could remove those parts. Nobody would know, that the Electronic and sensitive parts are missing.I don`t think, that any part of the bird would end up in Iran, if they would sell it to Duxford.

F-14's wernt made to sit in a museum. They need to start a History flight or what ever people call them with the F-14.
I miss the Turkasorus.

I think the costs in getting an F-14 to England now would be prohibitive as well. One would have to break the F-14 down, it being the largest fighter ever flown from a carrier deck, and remove all of the extra and sensitive components. Then, pack it up on a C-5 or C-17 and fly it over.
I don't think the Iranian issue is as much of an issue. Iran has some talented technicians and professionals in keep their Tomcats flying. I imagine most of the airframe has been reverse engineered at some point. If not by the Iranians, then with Chinese assistance. |

To be fair the Tomcat arguably had very little *visible* association with Europe apart from visiting aboard the USN super-carriers from time to time and more rarely appearing at airshows. The type's role in countering the serious Soviet maritime threat in the last 20 years of the Cold War was significant to Europe, however later in the Tomcat's career she was more associated with hot-spots elsewhere in the world. Would still be great to have one in the UK

Quote I agree. I don't think it is a 'real' issue, but it is a perceived issue. Personally I think it's very arrogant for those that perceive such a risk to think that Iran are incapable of doing exactly what you suggest and would prefer to scavenge parts from museum pieces. On the transport issue, I believe that the F-15A at Duxford was packed up in a C-5 or C-17 and flown from the US, so it's certainly not impossible. However, I'm sure the USAF have more important things to do at the moment. |

I think the USAF is in a transport deficit right, with a war on two fronts.
Trade the RAF one F-14 for a Jaguar, to place in the USAF museum
