Due to a server issue the Airfighters site has been down (for me) for several days and I was very afraid that we had lost the site for good! Now it is back up and running and I am breathing a very big sigh of relief

I know all us photographers are here for different reasons and likes. My passion is the AMARG 'boneyard' at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, Arizona. I have visited it six times since 1987 and I have 555 D-M photos on Airfighters with a few more yet to come; also I need to upgrade many of the older scans up to 1500 pixel image size. Ray even created a special 'Boneyard' category here for these types of photos.

It did get me thinking about how much I appreciate and value Airfighters though. It also made me think what I would do to share these photos elsewhere. Now I can stop thinking and get back to scanning all those film negatives

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your concern and comments. You and several other members wrote to me regarding the website outage, I really appreciate it. Yes, it was a scary and frustrating time for me as well. Rest assured the photos are backed up on an hourly basis to AWS, so they are safe and sound, so the site should never be lost for good.

The issue was really hard to diagnose because it happened by itself, ie. nothing that we had done to cause it, and it was sometimes intermittent, making it exceptionally difficult to diagnose. We had to scour through the logs to find out exactly what was causing it. Luckily it's fixed now, but this really should be a wake up call to upgrade the server to two or more servers, for redundancy, load balancing, etc. But that will cost several hundred dollars a month, so we need to increase revenue to cover the monthly costs. Unfortunately, despite website traffic being much higher now, ad revenue is down because more and more people are using ad blockers. At the same time, our monthly storage and bandwidth costs have risen because we have many more photos now with increased traffic.

To help with the monthly hosting and maintenance fees, please consider upgrading your membership to Platinum level. With a Platinum membership you will not see the annoying banner ads and get to view the photos without the watermark. And if you're a photographer, there are no queue limits for Platinum members. Please go here to upgrade your account. Thanks for your support.

Were photos that were in the queue get viewed, or were they lost?

Yes, that's true, we can take donations as well. Thank you Carl!

Nothing was lost. No reason for that to happen.

Dear Site Administrators, congratulations on repairing our dearest server here so AirFighters.com is back.

But I have an inquiry regarding the rejection of the photos. Since the server was repaired recently, my fellow spotter friends didn't receive e-mails regarding the rejection of their uploaded photos. Could you please explain why this issue occurs?

Best Regards.
