Just going through some photos that I took on a tour of the AMARG 'boneyard' at Davis-Monthan AFB in 2013 and I was fortunate to capture a couple of photos of the 'Janet' (Joint Air Network for Employee Transportation) Boeing 737-200 airliners which were stored there for a while. These aircraft were well known for flying out of Las Vegas International Airport to secret places like 'Area 51' and the Tonopah Test Range. They wore civilian markings and registrations, they were operated by contractors E.G.&G. on behalf of the Department of Defence and were listed as owned by the U.S. Air Force. When they entered AMARG they were given park code numbers and treated in the same way as military aircraft. I don't know of their dispositions. My question is, would these be eligible for posting on Airfighters?

I recall posting a photo of one of the many Boeing 707 airliners which were acquired by the U.S. Air Force and stored at AMARG for many years, I understand that they were used to provide spare parts for the KC-135 fleet. Not sure if they were owned by the U.S. Air Force or Department of Defence; anyways the photo was rejected as non-military and that's fair enough, however I wonder if the 'Janet' aircraft are sufficiently military to count here?

Thank you. Michael.

Appears to be thinking...

After doing some more research on this and the nature of their operations, I would say yes. We already have other defense contractors in the database, a few specifically working with the Luftwaffe and NATO. If it was a one-time flight, or simply a charter, then the answer would be no, but in this case it's ok.
