It appears that Commander David Burdine, the pilot of the MiG-17 that flew at the 2007 Wichita Air Festival flown out of Colonel James Jabara Airport, was killed on 3 September 2007 when his Yak-52 crashed shortly after takeoff from Lake in the Hills airport. I must admit, I was completely devastated, as I saw him perform not a week or so prior to his death. What a loss to the aviation community this airshow season has been.
Any chance I can get my photos of him flying his MiG-17 dedicated to him? He made me glad I even bothered to go to the airshow in the first place. If not for him, it'd have been a waste of time IMO. RIP sir, and many thanks for the great times and the memories. You will be sorely missed! Jaysen F. Snow - Sterling Aerospace Photography |

Wow, what a terrible year this has been for air shows. God bless him. I hope this was the last incident for a long, long time.
Would you like to change the remarks in your photos, Jaysen? -Ray |

Man, you're not kidding...the absolute worst airshow year I can remember thus far. Jim LeRoy, the P-51s, now this. Granted it wasn't at an airshow, but the fact remains it's been a very bad year for the airshow scene indeed.
If it's possible Ray, yeah I'd like to edit my remarks given what's happened. Jaysen F. Snow - Sterling Aerospace Photography |
