A new photo uplod interphase has been implemented. The main changes are the new "Auto Fill" feature any multi dependent drop-down menus for the aircraft, location, and air force.

Auto Fill
Enter the registration number, or construction number, not case sensitive, of the aircraft you wish to upload a photo for. If the data is already in the database, then it will automatically populate the correct fields for you. All you have to do is enter the location and date. Browse for the correct photo and enter a remark if you wish, and click the upload button and watch the file get uploaded to the database.

Successful Upload
Upon successful upload you will see a text message advising you of a successful upload. If you look below the message, you will notice that it remembered everything from the previous upload, including location and date. This can be a big time saver if you have multiple photos of the same aircraft. Even at this point you can still use the "Auto Fill" feature to search for info of another aircraft while retaining the location and date info. Again, this will work if the data is already in the database. If not found, and you wish to upload an entirely different photo, please remember to change the location and date accordingly.

Partial Info
Sometimes, the "Auto Fill" feature will find data for the photo you are trying to upload, but may not fill in the exact version. This means that the exact version is not in the database drop-downs. At this point you can select "other" and you will see a text field appear next to the drop-down. You can enter the exact type, or sub-type.

Not in the list
If an aircraft, location, air force, etc. is not already in the drop-downs, you can scroll all the way down and select "other". At this point you will see a text area appear next to the selected drop-down menu and you can enter the exact data there.

The drop-downs for aircraft and location, including a few air forces, will be re-done shortly. They are a big sloppy for a few aircraft types and sub-types. They will be fixed in the coming days and weeks, please bear with us and do the best you can in the mean time.

I think at this point, we have almost everything figured out and fixed. But, nothing beats real-world testing, so please give it a try and report any problems below.

Ok, I think just about all the problems with the data on the new upload page have been taken care of. The new aircraft and locations will get added automatically to the drop-down menus, but you have to do them correctly the first time. A lot of you are not entering the complete path when entering a new aircraft. Please follow this format if a particular type or sub-type is not in the list already:

General Dynamics
General Dynamics F-16
General Dynamics F-16B Fighting Falcon (401)

Notice how the full manufacturer and aircraft type has to be entered in the second line, followed by the full aircraft manufacturer, type, sub-type in the third row. Many of you are doing this:

General Dynamics
F-16
F-16B

This is not correct and will only display "F-16B" in the aircraft slot. Please use the example at the top as a guideline.

This will help us out a lot in getting photos approved faster and a more accurate and consistent database. Thanks for your cooperation.

Hi All,
As far as I can see the new system seems to be working out pretty good and has actually promoted uploading as most of the data is retained for the next upload and thus saving a lot of time.

The only problem I see is that a lot of you are still doing what I have in red above. That is a big no no. In the example above, the only thing that would be displayed is F-16B and we all know that is not correct. The full name needs to appear and thus the final drop down would/should be "General Dynamics F-16B". There are several photos like that in que right now where the data is not entered correctly. If you have photos in que right now, and are wondering why they aren't getting approved, that's probably why. Please go to your "My Photos" section and edit the photos accordingly. Otherwise, I'm afraid "Bad Data" rejections may be on the way. We simply don't have the time anymore to fix things or do research to find the correct info. I hope everyone understands the importance of this and I thank you for your cooperation.

Anyone else experiencing problems with the upload page? I can select the first line - "Boeing" for instance but do not get the subsequent levels revealed. I'm using Avant Browser but have also tried it with MS Explorer with the same result.

The page was working well last week and have returned this weekend to the above problem. Interested to hear your thoughts.

Regards, Tom

Yes, I have had the same problem with Internet Explorer, an older version which I have not kept up to date. Also the auto-complete would not work. Have solved the problem by installing Mozilla Firefox and using that as an alternative browser, all works perfectly

The new upload page is a great improvement, makes uploading much easier.

I personally use Firefox for everything. For one thing, everything looks and functions the way it was designed and meant to be. Also, the pages load much faster in Firefox as Firefox can "think" much faster than any version of IE. But, the rest of the world is still going IE, so things have to be coded with a lot of extra "garbage" to make it work multi platform.

The upload page has been tweaked a little again. Should work even better now. Anyone still having problems?

Hi there,

Since a couple of days, while trying to upload, I get the message "total file-name should be not longer than 32 characters"... Not a big issue, but since in general, my file-names are longer, I have to rename them before uploading...
Is there a specific reason for this?

Best regards,

Walter

Hi Walter,
Yes, there is a limit in place mainly for security reasons. It has been increased though to help you out.

I have a little problem. Two days ago I wanted to edit a picture and I saw this:
Sorry, this photo is currently discussed by Photo Screeners
I thought the picture was screened by a screener but now it's still not online or rejected and I can't edit it because I got that message.
Can you help me?

Hi Joost,
You must be talking about that photo of the Viggen. That photo is still in the que and we should make a decision today. I'm very sorry for the delay. I know it has taken a little longer than usual. Hang in there buddy.

Hi there,

when uploading a shot yesterday, I got the message "error...root is full" (I don't remember the exact wording...)

This morning, when I tried again to upload (same shot), I got the message that it was uploaded correctly, but immediately afterwards, the same error message occured (i.e. root is full), and the uploaded shot is not showing in the queue.

Any idea what is causing this problem?

Thanks and regards,

Walter

Walter

Hi there,

I think I found out what the problem was... While reviewing the file-name (for not allowed caracters) I noticed that I had selected a wrongly edited version which was slightly above the max upload size (1024kB). I now tried it with the correct edit, which is smaller than 1024kB and it worked

Best regards,

Walter

Hi

When I use the registration on the a/c
(especially with french a/c where they start numbering with 1 for each type),
I often get a totally different a/c.
Is it perhaps possible to get a choice-box when the registration is used by multiple a/c?

Just a small improvement.

Bye, Joris

Hi guys,
Walter, the error message has been changed now to display a more appropriate message. Sorry, I kept forgetting about it.

Joris,
I know what you are saying. That would really be a lot of work for a few aircraft that share the same registration number. Please don't forget that you can also use the Cn in the Auto Fill box. Give it a try please. We might visit it at a later time, but for now there are a few more urgently needed plugins that need attention.
