Hi all,

Since a few months I notice a, in my opinion, some "failures" in editing aviation images. I believe this is due to a wrong use of the adjustment brush in Lightroom.

When shooting in low light situations aircraft can turn out to be quite dark in the photo. This can be corrected by using selection tools in Photoshop and use a fine selection of the aircaft and then use an editing layer. However when the selection is nog made well, you will end up with lighter areas around the aircraft. The same is true for using the adjustment brush in Lightroom not carefully.

I would like to know how the screeners and other photographers around here think about this.

Post processing is definitely important, but I think in many cases it's overdone. I've seen photographers process photos to death. Why? I just don't get it. You really don't need to do much. Otherwise, you are really trying to save a poor photo. I'm not that familiar with Photoshop or LIghtroom, so I can't really comment on the exact tools or steps involved. I definitely think we can use more guidance in this area, especially for new photographers who are trying to 'fix' their photos to be uploaded here. We do have an article by Joop here: http://www.airfighters.com/page.php?id=129 which does a great job, but we can definitely use more pointers here in the Forum to help out a fellow photographer. I also encourage photographers to ask for advice here on how they can improve their processing. I'm sure a lot of photogs would be more than happy to help.

The screening standards are already pretty high, but that doesn't mean that once in a while a less than stellar photo doesn't get through. We reject hundreds of photos on a weekly basis, but like I said, sometimes one makes it through, that probably shouldn't have.

Sounds to me like you are volunteering to become a screener? ::grinning}

you are very young and you still have many things to learn and understand!
For example, if you do not like a picture, nobody forces you to comment it, and you may continue to watch just your photo, that are so beautiful and perfect.

In any case, I did not understand your intentions:

1) speaks of misuse of post production techniques, but your assessment is wrong: I did not use the brush but a correction of + 0.3EV throughout the image. The next time, is better if you use yuor personal picture for the example (assuming that you have some "wrong" image).

Why don't you contacted me for ask any information? opps... sorry...I know the answer: you already know everything!

2) Are not you agree with the opinion of the screener? You think it's been done a terrible injustice?
If I can help you live better, I can remove immediately the bad-photo from the database!
For me, Airfighters.com is not a competition site, but a place where is possible to share a pleasant experience.
If you don't like something, you can always (and simply) go further....
