Looks like Northrop has decided not to go head to head with Boeing on the new tanker bid. I think this will make it highly unlikely that the Air Force will select the A330 for this role. I'm not even sure if Airbus will want to go at it alone anymore. Full article.

That's too bad. Good competition is in everybody's best interest. Does this mean that the deal is basically handed over to Boeing no questions asked?

Probably...although I have to confess I have no problem with our next tanker being a Boeing product. Who else in the world has more experience in aerial refueling technology? Don't get me wrong, I agree that a good competition is a good thing...but if it were up to me, I personally would have never selected the Airbus aircraft in a million years.
