Hi, I'm new here, but this question really irritates me:

Movies like Top Gun, Air Force One and Iron Eagle portray flying fighter jets like F-14, F-15, F-16 etc. as well as air combat as a VERY COOL thing, but I dont think this is the reality, I think there's much of movie crap into it so I'd love to know what the real thing is without movies crap, stereotypings etc., after all, no one of us on the ground have sat in the pilots seat and had his experience, in my own opinion, I think there are many things upthere that are hidden to us and will never showup unless you're the pilot.
I'd love to know your opinions and I'll be lucky if we had real fighter pilots over here!
Thanks alot

No pilot but ground crew. From what I've seen at 410 Cougars in CFB Cold Lake, it's not as easy as Tom Cruise makes it. It's a very physically and mentally demanding job. If you ever get the chance to fly backseat in a fighter aircraft, don't take the bet, the pilot can and will make you puke.

PS. Check out a show called Jetstream, you can find it on Discovery Channel's Canada website. It is a documentary about the Canadian Air Force fighter pilot training program.

One reality about it is that everything happens much faster than one would think. Every action and reaction has to be ramped up to a higher speed.
