Hi all

For your awareness, please read this

http://www.airliners.net/termsofuse/
http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38750

This means that On Demand Media, owner of airliners.net gets a complete waiver on copyright, the right to do anything with the contributor's work they want. Anything, anytime, without credit to you -let alone royalties, forever.

I just send a mail to support@airliners.net to have my pictures removed from A.net immediately. I think all of you who have pictures their should carefully read the terms of use and make a decision fast.

Of course, and you already knew that, you are much better of with your pictures posted at Airfighters.com :-)

I've been watching this closely. I think I better start airlinerdb.com, based on the airfighters.com technology. There are a few other websites out there, including a gray one, but I think the net could use a better one...

Hi,

As I've had a little time off from the database, I've been following this closely as well in their forums and don't like what I read. I'm not one for rivalry between websites, as I think there is room for Anet and JPnet - both of which I upload pics at - as well as obviously what we have here, and would be geniunely annoyed if Demand Media mucked it up so much that it went under. That said, and like many of their photographers, I will pull my 350 or so off if this is not resolved well before their given date for the start of the new terms.

It looks like they have back tracked a little with the old terms reinstated - at least for the moment. Although that means nothing in the long term and the new owners have gradually driven the site downwards so the next underhand ploy is probably already planned.

No they're still around. They simply gave in to the photographers after many people started asking for their photos to be removed from the site. I guess they finally realized that the site is not worth much without the photos. They turned around their policy to allow anything and everything, to simply compete with JP.net for the number of photos in the database. They went from one extreme to the other.

Our terms are simple: it's your photos and will always be your photos and we won't use it anywhere for any reason, or make money off of them without your prior consent. We will have an official Terms of Use page soon. I just haven't gotten around to writing it. :-) Also, we will soon have a photo print service and the photographers that wish to participate will have a chance to make a little bit of money on the side.

Hi Carl,
My goal for airfighters is/was to have a site that is "everything" military aircraft, not just photos. By "everything" I mean aircraft history pages, detailed specifications pages, fleets, stories about aircraft, squadrons, air shows, etc. etc. but as you can see we have a long ways to go regarding the content. With photos I think we're doing great. I'm not trying to go for numbers, but having at least one photo of every military aircraft ever built would be great.

We can really use a lot of help regarding articles and other content. If anyone would like to contribute in any way, please get in touch with me. For ex. if you'd like to write up about your favorite aircraft, please do. If you'd like to compare the F-15 with the Mig 29 for example, please let me know. I'd be happy to put it up on the site. Basically, almost anything is allowed, as long as it will appeal to a large audience and is of decent length, it will not be refused. I know that many of our members have their own sites/blogs and if you wish to add an article that may be a few weeks/months old, that would be ok as well. Please get in touch with me.

Airfighters is growing at a good rate that I'm happy with. A rapid expansion is not so good either, and we've been consistently growing ever since we started. Sure, the other big sites get more traffic and more hits, but they've been around for over 13 years while we just passed the 3 year mark, so I think we're doing ok for a 3 year old site. Together we can make this a great site, I can't do it all alone. Please get in touch with me if you'd like to contribute or be involved in any way.
