A new category has just been added: Preserved Aircraft. Please use this for non-flying aircraft, in museums or displayed outside on a pole/display stand. Many of you have been selecting "The Boneyard" category and that's not really correct for such aircraft.

Please let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks Ray, I am one of the sinners who has been categorising museum aircraft as 'Boneyard' and I think having a separate category is sensible and overdue.

Of course, every good museum has a junk pile around the back of their hangars, so when does a museum boneyard aircraft become a museum piece? :wink

Just kidding! Still, it will be good when the 'comments to screeners' facility is added to the upload page as this is the sort of thing that can be flagged up for a decision or second opinion when uploading.

Keep the improvements coming, the quality of photography being attracted here keeps getting higher and higher

Hi Michael,
You're welcome. I'm sure you'll make good use of it. I had been thinking about it and a little nudge from Peter finally pushed me to do it.

Well, as I've come to learn over the past few months, just about everything here has a borderline area and it's not always well defined.

Yes, I agree, the photos do keep getting better. We're proud to have such esteemed photographers uploading here.

Michael,

The problem with the categories, is where do we stop, if we add one for VIP and government aircraft why not add one for Fighters, Trainers, Bombers and so on...........

I am not saying that VIP/Governement is not a good idea, its just how far do we go, do you guys want to see a Category for Fighters, Trainers or Bombers?

The reason we added preserved was people were putting preserved aircraft in Boneyard and it just didn't seem right as aircraft in Museums are most definatly not of the Boneyard category.

Thoughts

John

Hi John, all,

As said not something I can't life without....

But the more categories the better (in my opinion). Especially here when you can select more than one.

The categories makes seaching so much easier (an ever groing problem as the site adds more photos), so again the more the marrier.

Just my 2 cents, Michael

If we had categories for VIP, Fighters, Bombers and Trainers, that would just about cover everything anyway wouldn't it, so maybe not a bad idea.

Mass confusion ahead!!! So where would we put the F/A-18 Hornet, or the F-14 Bombcat? How about maritime aircraft, trainers, etc. etc. It would just get out of hand. The special categories were meant for aircraft that are out of the 'norm', not the mainline types. In fact I'm thinking of combining the Classic and Nostalgic categories as well. Another area that causes too much confusion.

May I offer a less contenious (?) suggestion for a new category: how about one for display teams? Right now the "Special Scehemes" category is dense with pics of the Thunderbirds, Blues, Reds, etc. I would argue those aren't really special markings, and they dilute the special tails, anniversary schemes, Tiger marks, and the like that do qualify. So give them their own home!

My $0.02.

Actually Mark that's probably a good idea, something I had thought about and then forgotten about again lol.

There you go guys. Display Teams category created. I replaced the Cockpits and Cabins category with this one as the list was getting rather long and the Cockpits and Cabins category wasn't really appropriate for airfighters but rather more for airliners.

Hi Ray,

I just wanted to add my thanks for all the hard work that you and your fellow screeners/moderators(?) do in the continual improvements on this site.

Although there are many varied forums and photographic sites relating to aviation available on the internet, I must admit that this is the friendliest and most helpful forum of its kind (my own humble opinion of course).

It was a good idea about the display team category, and can quite understand that you don't wish to add too many more subject headings.

Keep up the hard work, and I hope that you still gain as much pleasure from your site as the rest of us certainly do.

Many thanks again,

Tim

Hi Tim,
You're quiet welcome. I'm glad you like the site and everything about it. In about 8 months we have come a long way and I must admit the current version of the site is very different from the beginnings, and many more improvements/features have yet to come. Of course, the site wouldn't be anything without all the great photos, and many, many thanks to all the photographers who have contributed to the site, like yourself.

I enjoy the site very much, and when things are running smoothly I enjoy it even more. I get a kick out of seeing all the fantastic photos on the site and more and more esteemed photographers joining us everyday.
